If you spent any time at all this year looking at sea life at Aquaria KLCC or saying hi to pandas at Zoo Negara, congratulations – you’re officially part of the statistics that Agoda just dropped.
The digital travel platform just revealed its top-booked activities for the first half of 2026, offering a glimpse at what travelers are adding to their itineraries across Malaysia and the broader region.
Within Malaysia, Aquaria KLCC topped the list of most-booked activities, followed closely by Genting SkyWorlds and Zoo Negara, and the company said that accessibility was king.
The rankings highlight the appeal of accessible attractions that can complement city stays, weekend breaks and short local trips.
On the flip side, Universal Studios Singapore ranked first this year for Malaysians traveling abroad, followed by Hong Kong Disneyland Park and VinWonders Phu Quoc in Vietnam.
What to Do Nearby: Maximize Your Day Trips
Because accessibility and convenience are the clear themes here, visitors can pair these three local heavy-hitters with nearby activities to stretch their itineraries into full-day adventures.
Nearby Aquaria KLCC: Since the oceanarium sits right under KLCC, the obvious moves are to step outside into the lush greenery of KLCC Park, catch the iconic fountain light show at Esplanade, or walk the air-conditioned pedestrian skybridge straight into Bukit Bintang’s shopping golden triangle.
Nearby Genting SkyWorld: The sort of immediate highlight here is the Genting Premium Outlet for a spot of retail therapy and F&B exploration. If adventure is more your thing, zipline across the Sky Avenue mall with the Eagle Landing Zipline.
For those who want something a little less hectic, head to Bukit Tinggi. It’s about an hour’s drive away and features the Colmar Tropicale (a French-themed village) and a tranquil Japanese Garden.
Nearby Zoo Negara: Located in Hulu Kelang, a trip to the national zoo pairs nicely with a bit of nature and local lifestyle. Thrill-seekers can head just 10 minutes further up the road into Kemensah for ATV jungle trekking and river-side dining, while families can catch a panoramic view of the KL skyline from the nearby Bukit Antarabangsa viewpoints.
Foreign Tourist Numbers To Rebound In The Second Half Of 2026
This high demand for local attractions aligns with a broader, more resilient picture of Malaysia’s inbound tourism. While individual booking platforms show what tourists are doing, macroeconomic data reveals that the overall volume of global travelers heading to our shores is preparing for a major second-half surge.
According to BMI, a unit of Fitch Solutions, international tourist arrivals for the first five months of the year reached 10.6 million – a modest 1.1% increase compared to the same period last year.
While market observers noted this early-year slowdown, BMI expects a major rebound, projecting that Malaysia will welcome 27.97 million international tourist arrivals by the end of 2026. That would mark a 5.1% increase over 2025 and sit 7.2% above the 2019 pre-pandemic benchmark.
The firm noted that the factors slowing down initial momentum – such as geopolitical conflicts in the Middle East, higher airfares, and disrupted flight route – are temporary hurdles rather than any “lasting erosion” of Malaysia’s appeal as a top travel destination.
Also, any near-term weakness was heavily offset by a massive wave of visitors from Mainland China. Supported by Malaysia’s visa-free policy (now extended until December 31) and improved flight connectivity under the Visit Malaysia 2026 campaign, Chinese arrivals surged 21% year-on-year to 1.87 million visitors in the first five months alone.
Long story short, BMI notes that sustained growth from the Chinese market, paired with aggressive government tourism campaigns, means that Malaysia’s structural travel recovery remains firmly intact for the rest of the year.
