While many are reluctant to join the National Service (PLKN), a small but growing group is drawn to the programme.
Imagine the disappointment when hopeful trainees and their families were turned away after travelling far to attend registration day at the 505th Territorial Army Regiment Camp in Pekan, Pahang three days ago.
In a viral TikTok video, a woman expressed her extreme dissatisfaction with the whole process.

She argued that it was disappointing because these youths were eager to join PLKN, waited for registration announcements online, and travelled far to get to the location. They did everything right.
They were also allegedly given the run around while waiting only to be told much later that there were no more spots for these kids.
She questioned why PLKN representatives continued with the walk-in registration knowing full well they could not take in any more youths.
Social media users sympathised with the teens and their families and understood the disappointment they felt. They also criticised the poor organisation which resulted in this mess.

According to New Straits Times, the woman wasn’t the only person affected by the poor planning. Some travelled from as far as Negeri Sembilan and spent overnight in a nearby location just so they could register early in the morning.
A mother, Marini Che Pa, was furious and said she doesn’t understand why the management did not realise earlier that the number of trainees had exceeded the camp’s capacity through the system.
Meanwhile, another parent, Rozaidi Mat Isa said all hopeful trainees received official letters from PLKN and there was no way parents would bring their children all the way without official confirmation.
National Service Training Department training operations director Colonel Mazlizan Shaikh Osman claimed some trainees did not confirm their attendance but still turned up at the camp, which resulted in overcrowding.
He said they are not rejecting any trainees; instead, those who can’t join this time will be allowed to join the next intake.
He added that priority is given to those who are required to attend PLKN this time around.
