AGC Goes Full Peaky Blinders In London, Gets Called Anglophiles By Malaysians

A photo posted on the official attorney-general’s chambers’ (AGC) Twitter account recently went viral and drew ire from the Malaysian public, who perceive it as being anglophilic (strongly admiring England for its culture, people, customs and institutions).

The post has since been removed from the AGC’s account but other Twitter users have already taken screenshots of it.

According to a tweet by user @Aisehman, the AGC’s post caption read:

LONDON, 20 Jan 2026 – YBhg. Tan Sri Mohd Dusuki Mokhtar, Attorney-General, begins his official work visit to London, United Kingdom. He was accompanied by YBrs. Tuan Shamsul Bolhassan, Head of the Legal Department, and lawyer Ms. Noor Nadira Noordin.

Malaysians commented on Mohd Dusuki and Shamsul’s outfits, which are reminiscent of British fashion in the 1920s made popular by characters in the hit television series Peaky Blinders.

Some also commented on where they posed for a photo, which appears to be at The Churchill, a five-star hotel under the Hyatt Hotels Corporation with room rates starting from RM1,800 per night.

Many made jabs about them being anglophiles, and being unable to shed the influence of British colonialism.

What Peaky Blinders is and its aesthetics

Peaky Blinders is a British crime drama set in post–World War I Birmingham, charting the rise of the Shelby family, led by the ambitious and psychologically scarred Tommy Shelby. Beginning with illegal betting, the family builds power across crime, business, and politics, confronting rival gangs, state authority, and entrenched class systems.

This world is reflected strongly through its fashion, which becomes a symbol of identity and power. Working-class grit contrasts with sharp ambition in the Shelbys’ tailored three-piece suits, long overcoats, flat caps, leather boots, and pocket watches, while women’s fashion evolves from practical dresses to bold, modern styles that signal changing social roles.
