Malaysian singer-songwriter Namewee, real name Wee Meng Chee, has pleaded not guilty to two charges of possessing controlled substances.

Wee was charged at the Magistrate’s Court on 19 January under Section 9(1) of the Poisons Act for possessing a drug commonly used to treat erectile dysfunction. Upon conviction, it carries a maximum penalty of five years’ imprisonment, a fine of up to RM50,000, or both.

He allegedly had 0.78g of sildenafil on 22 October 2025 at a hotel near Jalan Conlay.

Sildenafil is regulated under the Poisons Act and can only be possessed with a valid medical prescription.

According to New Straits Times, Wee also pleaded not guilty to an amended charge of possessing 1.57g of methamphetamine in the same hotel room.

The charge is framed under Section 12(2) of the Dangerous Drugs Act 1952, which carries a maximum fine of RM100,000, imprisonment of up to five years, or both, upon conviction.

The court fixed 5 March for mention.

After the proceedings yesterday, Wee posted on his Instagram saying he was confused by the charges.

However, he stressed that the key point was his negative result in the urine drug test.

On 22 December 2025, the Magistrate’s Court discharged and acquitted Wee after the prosecution withdrew the case in light of negative test results.
