Moët & Chandon has decided that this festive season needs more red, and not just from your uncle’s face after his third glass of bubbly.
The French champagne house has released its Moët Impérial in a limited-edition red design, because apparently regular champagne bottles weren’t festive enough.
The move is part of what the Maison calls its philosophy of “savoir-fête” — the art of celebration — which sounds fancy but basically means they’re really good at throwing parties and have been since 1743.
Red, the company explains with the seriousness of a sommelier discussing terroir, symbolises “human connection, love, and celebration,” though one suspects it also photographs extremely well on Instagram.
The limited edition aims to “magnify exceptional moments” and create “unforgettable memories imbued with magic, conviviality, and collective joy,” which is a very French way of saying it makes gatherings more fun.
Life Lessons from a Champagne House
At the heart of this crimson campaign is a deceptively simple idea: life is better when shared.
It’s the kind of wisdom that sounds obvious until you’re actually clinking glasses with people you care about, at which point it feels profound.
Cellar Master Benoît Gouez — yes, that’s his actual title — crafts each year’s blend to achieve what he calls “the perfect balance,” sublimating freshness and fruitiness in a way that makes every toast feel significant.
For those wondering what to pair with their red-wrapped bubbles, Executive Chef Jean-Michel Bardet suggests seafood and lightly cooked dishes with “delicate salinity,” though let’s be honest, champagne pairs well with most things when you’re in the right mood.
The limited edition landed at selected Malaysian outlets back in November, which means it’s already survived the holiday season.
The good news?
The need to gather around a table and pretend the world makes sense doesn’t expire with the decorations.
