The United States of America has indefinitely suspended immigrant visa processing for people from 75 countries and Malaysia isn’t included in the list.
According to Reuters, this move does not impact visitor visas.
The freeze will come into effect on 21 January and targets those who the Trump administration believe will depend on government benefits for basic needs.
Research has contradicted the administration’s claims since results showed that native-born Americans consumed, on average per capita basis, more welfare and entitlement benefits than all immigrants. The study also showed that immigrants consumed 21% fewer welfare and entitlement benefits than native-born Americans on a per capita basis in 2022.
According to The Guardian, if a visa has already been approved but hasn’t been printed, the consular officer must refuse the case.
