Hong Kong martial arts actor Bruce Leung Choi-sang, best known as the fearsome “Fire Cloud Evil God” in Stephen Chow’s 2004 film Kung Fu Hustle, has died at the age of 77.
Leung passed away on 14 January, with a funeral service scheduled for 26 January in Shenzhen’s Longgang district in China, according to media reports.
Born on 28 April 1948, in Guangdong, China, he rose to fame in the 1970s alongside Bruce Lee, Jackie Chan and Ti Lung – collectively known as Hong Kong cinema’s “Four Dragons.”

Chan posted a tribute photo, writing: “I couldn’t and didn’t want to believe it… He was a master who excelled in multiple traditional martial arts styles. Brother Leung, it’s snowing in Beijing. I miss you.”
Chow, who directed Kung Fu Hustle, posted old photos with the caption: “Forever remembering Mr Bruce Leung.”
Career Resurgence Marred By Payment Dispute
As a trained martial artist with expertise in Wing Chun, Leung’s unique style contributed significantly to the authenticity and appeal of his character in the film.
While Kung Fu Hustle gave Leung a career resurgence, he publicly refused to work with Chow again, citing payment disputes.
“After finishing the work, I didn’t receive the full payment,” he said in past interviews.
Leug also mentioned creative differences and being pressured to work without clear scripts.
Final Goodbye: “Live well for me”
Meanwhile, fans have been puzzled by his social media accounts continuing to post new videos after his death.
On 17 January, a video appeared showing him speaking about child trafficking, prompting confused comments before fans realised the content was pre-recorded.
Then, on 18 January, his account posted a farewell message dated 14 January: “Please forgive me for leaving without saying goodbye.
Just think of me as being far away filming a movie… Live well for me. Remember, I love you all.
His family has not released details about the cause of death.
Just one day before his passing, Leung was in Shenzhen’s Luohu district enjoying a Leizhou lamb hotpot meal (tender lamb in a flavorful broth) with friends, and he was even the one treating everyone that evening.
