Drivers in Selangor can expect to once again receive parking summons if they continue parking indiscriminately, as the Smart Selangor Parking app services resume.

This was announced in a social media post by Smart Selangor Parking, which said users can now resume making parking payments through its app after the service recovered, reportedly from a hacking incident.

Previously, Selangor Menteri Besar Datuk Seri Amirudin Shari took to Facebook to provide updates on the issue, although he steered away from linking the issue with cyber crime.

In his post on June 30, Amiruddin said that the app is in the midst of migrating its server.

He also said that local councils across Selangor has been requested to hold off on issuing summonses during the temporary shutdown of the Selangor Intelligent Parking (SIP) system.

However, state state local government committee chairman Datuk Ng Suee Lim acknowledged the matter.

According top The Star, Ng said that the cyberattack had effectively paralysed parking payment platforms across 64 local councils nationwide, forcing an immediate temporary shutdown of SIP.

While no official statement was issued regarding the attack, popular automotive portal Paul Tan, quoted software solutions provider Gotchaa Lab as saying that Flexi Parking had been compromised during the weekend, with the hackers taking advantage of two old, preventable bugs to gain access into the system.
