A stowaway cat was found trapped in a shipping container that arrived in Malaysia from Japan recently.

The diesel technician who found the feline at his workplace posted a video on social media yesterday (9 July) of the furry stowaway to show that she was being taken care of.

The worker had given food and water to the cat, and even bathed it before sharing the video. He later informed the public that a friend of his had decided to adopt the “Neko”.

The cat’s real owner has come forward to reclaim the cat

In an update on Threads, the man who found the cat said an individual had reached out to him to reclaim their lost pet.

After he verified that the person was indeed the cat’s owner, he surrendered the animal to them.

“The owner is a Malaysian who works in Japan, and it just so happens that they were back in Malaysia for four days on a holiday.

“According to the owner, they closed the door of the container on 3 June and did not realise the cat had slipped in. They’ve been looking for the cat ever since. Oh and the cat’s name is Mimi,” he said in the Threads post.

The owner of the cat had requested to remain anonymous, and not show their face on camera.
