Just days after his resignation from the Yayasan Peneraju (YP), Ibrahim Sani took the stage in Johor to campaign for Parti Bersama Malaysia (Bersama) candidates.

The former federal agency chief executive officer said that his move was influenced by the resignation of Datuk Seri Rafizi Ramli and Nik Nazmi Nik Ahmad as Members of Parliament before taking over Bersama.

He had earlier uploaded a photo showing him in a Bersama shirt – signaling his support to the newly rebranded party identified as Kancil.

Speaking at a Bersama campaign event in Skudai, Ibrahim said he initially thought the duo’s decision to relinquish their parliamentary seats and lead the newly rebranded party was a risky move.

“At the time, I thought it was crazy for them to resign as MPs and then set up Bersama,” he was quoted as saying by FMT.

However, Ibrahim said the move prompted him to reconsider his own role in government.

“That was the moment I decided to resign as head of a federal agency because I felt quite disillusioned by what was being offered in Malaysia,” he said.

According to Ibrahim, he had long been searching for a political platform capable of steering the country in a different direction.

He said Bersama became the “vehicle” he had been waiting for, adding that any journey would only inspire confidence if it was led by a capable and steady driver.

Ibrahim stepped down as Yayasan Peneraju CEO on July 1 after serving in the role since his appointment in November 2023.

The Johor state election is entering its final leg with voting day slated for 11 July.
