Four members of one family were among five people killed in a crash on the Johor Baru–Ayer Hitam road near Simpang Renggam on Monday (1 June), in a case police are linking to two luxury cars driven by brothers.
The crash happened at about 1 pm and involved five vehicles.
According to Kluang district police chief ACP Bahrin Mohd Noh, a BMW 530e driven by a 22-year-old man lost control, crossed into the opposite lane and hit several vehicles, including a Toyota Vios carrying the family.
All four people in the Vios died from severe head and body injuries, while the BMW driver later died on the way to hospital.
Police have detained the dead driver’s brother, who was driving a Mercedes-Benz A250, to assist with the investigation.
The case is being investigated under the Road Transport Act 1987.
Several other people were injured and treated at a nearby hospital.

A Family Of Three Generations, Gone In One Crash
The four who died in the Vios were named as:
- Mohd Aiman Mohd Rashid, 36
- His wife, Nor Azlina Abd Latif, 33
- His mother-in-law, Semek Mat Soh, 73
- His niece, Nur Airish Syifa Sidek, 10
Relatives said the deaths came just two weeks after Mohd Aiman lost his father, Mohd Rashid Dolah, 59, to colon cancer.
“We had not even recovered from that loss, and suddenly we were tested again with even more heartbreaking news,” his aunt, Nor Haida Dolah, 54, told reporters at the family home in Dungun, Terengganu.
She said the couple, who married in 2017, lived and worked in Felda Ulu Sedili, Johor.
They had returned to Dungun for Hari Raya Aidiladha and brought their young niece along for a trip, planning to send her home the following Saturday before school resumed.
“Allah’s plan overcame everything,” she said.
The bodies of the four family members arrived at a mosque in Terengganu on Tuesday morning (2 June), where they were laid to rest in a single grave after funeral prayers.
More than 200 relatives and friends attended.
Minister Urges Swift Action
Transport Minister Anthony Loke described the manner of driving as “highly irresponsible” and said it could not be accepted under any circumstances.
He urged police to expedite the investigation so the case file could be referred to the Attorney-General’s Chambers as soon as possible.
Loke also pointed out that staying safe on the roads comes down to all of us doing our part.
A driving licence is not a licence to drive recklessly and cause tragedy to innocent people.
Loke also offered his condolences to the families of those who lost their lives, calling it a tragedy that could and should have been prevented.
Meanwhile, the driver responsible for the accident is allegedly the son of a gambling den boss in Simpang Renggam, which has led to discussions regarding connections to illegal activities.
