Perikatan Nasional (PN), led by PAS, will not bow to any party in the upcoming Johor state election, the coalition’s deputy president Datuk Seri Tuan Ibrahim Tuan Man said.

The PAS deputy president said he expects multi-cornered contests involving Barisan Nasional (BN), Pakatan Harapan (PH) as well as coalition partners Bersatu and also independent candidates.

“If MUDA decides to join the fray, it will be even more lively. The political landscape in Peninsular Malaysia could resemble Sabah, with many parties contesting,” he told TRP when contacted.

However, Tuan Ibrahim stressed that PAS would study the matter further and discuss it with its coalition partners before making any decisions.

PAS and Bersatu formally ended their political cooperation earlier this month, bringing an end to years of collaboration that began under the PN banner ahead of the 2020 political realignment.

The split came after prolonged disagreements over electoral strategies and the future direction of the opposition bloc, with both parties subsequently announcing that they would pursue separate paths.

With the Johor state election around the corner, PAS and Bersatu are now expected to face each other directly in several constituencies although nothing is set in stone yet.

The Johor polls will be the first major electoral test for PAS and Bersatu since their split, with both side making claim over PN and the use of its logo.
