Amanah is looking to significantly expand its presence in Johor and Negeri Sembilan in the next state elections, with the party expecting to contest 19 seats in Johor and nine in Negeri Sembilan.

Its election director, Mohd Sany Hamzan, said the party is eyeing more seats because the Pakatan Harapan coalition will not be working with Barisan Nasional in heading into the election in both states.

The Hulu Langat MP added that Amanah intends to focus more on explaining the achievements of the Unity Government rather than attacking its political rivals.

“I think our angle will not be to attack our opponents. We want to explain what has been achieved over the past three and a half years under the Madani and Unity Government,” he said when contacted by TRP.

Amanah contested 16 state seats in the 2022 Johor state election but only managed to win Simpang Jeram. The seat was won by the late Datuk Seri Salahuddin Ayub.

Sany said the party is currently focusing on strengthening its machinery, refining campaign strategies and preparing messages that resonate with voters ahead of the polls.

According to Sany, the administration inherited a country grappling with economic challenges, the aftermath of the Covid-19 pandemic and prolonged political instability.

However, he argued that various initiatives introduced by the government have begun yielding positive results.

Among the issues that Amanah plans to highlight are salary increases for civil servants, larger allocations for Islamic affairs, improvements in corruption and poverty indices, falling unemployment rates and strengthening investor confidence.

Sany also pointed to infrastructure projects and economic development in Johor, including road upgrades and connectivity improvements, which he said were made possible by political stability and close cooperation between the federal and state governments.

“It is easier to implement welfare programmes and infrastructure projects when the governments at the federal and state levels are aligned,” he said.

Sany said Malaysians should allow Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim to complete his term before making a judgment on the administration’s performance.

“If given another term, I believe more development projects and initiatives can be delivered by the Madani Government,” he added.

Meanwhile, Sany also confirmed that Amanah is demanding the Puteri Wangsa state seat in Johor, although discussions within Pakatan Harapan over seat allocations have yet to be concluded.

“Puteri Wangsa belongs to Amanah. We are indeed claiming the seat,” he said.

The Puteri Wangsa seat was contested and won by Malaysian United Democratic Alliance (Muda) when the party had an electoral pact with Pakatan Harapan during the 2022 Johor state election.

Both Johor and Negeri Sembilan state legislative assemblies were dissolved on June 1 and 4 respectively.
