A man who was involved in a traffic collision has been charged with murder for driving under the influence (DUI) and causing the death of a motorcyclist in Klang late last week.

R. Saktygaanapathy, 28, was accused under Section 302 of the Penal Code and faces the death penalty or imprisonment between 30 and 40 years as well as 12 strokes of the cane.

As the case is under the High Court’s jurisdiction, no plea was recorded.

According to Buletin TV3, in the same proceeding, the accused pleaded guilty to consuming Benzo and Tetrahydrocannabinol (THC) at the Narcotics Department of the South Klang District police headquarters.

THC is commonly found in cannabis, also known as weed.

The law that governs consumption of illegal drugs like THC falls under Section 15(1)(a) of the Dangerous Drugs Act 1952, and is punishable by imprisonment of up to two years, or a maximum fine of RM5,000 as well as a surveillance order up to three years.

The accused is not represented by any counsel and the next case mention has been set on 3 June, 2026.

The victim went out to buy a math book for his child when he was hit by the car

Amirul Hafiz Omar, the victim of the fatal incident, was a 33-year-old man with three children.

According to news reports, he was out on a simple errand in Klang that fateful day: to buy a mathematics book for one of his children.

His wife, 32-year-old Nor Nadia Abdul Majid, told New Straits Times that her husband had been planning to buy a mathematics book for their child for days.

“The last message I received from him was just before 11am, asking about some documents. I never imagined it would be the last time we spoke,” she said.

The incident has sparked heavy public outrage, with many calling for stricter laws and punishments against driving under the influence of alcohol or illicit drugs.

On 29 March 2026, the accused is alleged to have driven against the flow of traffic before ramming into the motorcycle ridden by Amirul on Jalan Raya Barat. The impact caused the victim to somersault multiple times in the air before landing on the roof of a passing car. Amirul, a father of three, died at the scene.

Dascham footage of the tragic incident went viral on social media.
