Malaysian badminton players dominated the Indonesia Masters 2026, clinching three out of five titles at the Super 500 tournament held at Istora Senayan in Jakarta over the week.

The winning streak began with the women’s doubles pair of Pearly Tan and M. Thinaah, who secured their first title of 2026 after their Japanese opponents, Arisa Igarashi and Miyu Takahashi, withdrew at the last minute.

The world number two duo claimed their seventh (Badminton World Federation) BWF World Tour title together since partnering in 2021, though details of the Japanese pair’s withdrawal remain unclear.

In mixed doubles, Chen Tang Jie and Toh Ee Wei made history by becoming the first Malaysian pair to win the Indonesia Masters since the tournament’s inception.

The world number four duo staged a dramatic comeback against Denmark’s Mathias Christiansen and Alexandra Boje, winning 15-21, 21-17, 21-11 in a 57-minute thriller.

The victory marked their first title of 2026 and improved their head-to-head record against the Danish pair to 3-1.

Malaysian fans expressed their happiness and pride after Chen and Toh spoke in Malay during an English interview following their victory.
