Global ride-hailing platform inDrive has received approval from Malaysia’s Land Public Transport Agency (APAD) to continue operating in the country, following a three-month licensing review.
The company announced the news on Wednesday (18 December) at its 2025 Platinum Drivers Awards ceremony in Kuala Lumpur, where it honoured over 150 top-performing drivers from the Klang Valley, Penang, and Johor Bahru.
The approval marks a significant milestone for inDrive, which had faced regulatory scrutiny earlier this year.
In July, the company, along with rival platform Maxim, was ordered to suspend operations for failing to comply with local licensing regulations.
Both companies were given the option to appeal, with the final decision resting with APAD.
APAD, which operates under the Ministry of Transport, is responsible for planning, regulating, and enforcing all matters related to land public transport in Peninsular Malaysia.
Regulatory Compliance Confirmed
Speaking at the awards ceremony, inDrive’s Driver Operations Manager Azlan Anwar said the company was grateful for the regulatory clearance.
We are grateful to the Ministry of Transport and APAD for granting us the green light to continue our operations in Malaysia.
He added that the approval allows the company to continue supporting thousands of drivers who depend on the platform for income.
InDrive also highlighted its efforts to meet regulatory requirements, including improvements in internal processes, document management, and engagement with authorities.
Focus On Driver Support
The company emphasised its commitment to drivers, citing one of the lowest commission structures in the industry.
“With one of the lowest commission structures in the industry, we remain committed to helping drivers earn more, support their families, and strengthen their livelihoods,” Azlan said.
Moving forward, inDrive plans to enhance driver onboarding, document verification, and support initiatives, including its inDrive Academy programme.
The company said it aims to build a “fairer, more transparent, and more sustainable ride-hailing ecosystem” in Malaysia.
inDrive operates in 982 cities across 48 countries and has been downloaded over 360 million times globally.
