Two brothers, aged 12 and 14, were swept away by strong water currents in the drain while trying to retrieve a ball in Taman Prima Saujana, Kajang last night.
The Fire and Rescue Department said it received a call at 6.32pm and a search and rescue operation was launched.
The 12-year-old victim was found unconscious in Sungai Kantan about two kilometres away from the location they reportedly fell from.
The boy was given emergency aid at 7.47pm before being sent to Kajang Hospital for further treatment. Unfortunately, he was pronounced dead at 10pm last night.
A rescue operation continues in search of the victim’s older brother.
The Fire and Rescue Department has urged the public to be cautious near drains and other bodies of water, especially during heavy rain or after storms.
People online shared their condolences to the victim’s family.
A Threads user shared how she could not sleep after hearing about the victim, who was her son’s classmate. She said the boys used to come over to the house for dance practice.
